Why do this? Why “pass the hat” at all? As a person who grew up in a “working class artist” household, I firmly believe that artists deserve to be compensated for their labor. We deserve a living wage, so that we might be able to stop always being on the hustle. Imagine the explosion of art (and invention and innovation) that would ensue if we all could stop worrying about housing, food, water, and all the other basics! I hope I live to see that kind of enlightened society one day. But in the meantime, artists have to ask for our livelihoods. Thank you for considering engaging in this kind of support.
